About Us
Our History
Lakeville Guard was established in 2016 by Lakeville South Band Director Chad Bieniek, Color Guard Director Melissa Nielsen and 7 eager students wanting to add visual impact to their marching band shows. By 2020, performers and staff passionate about guard added a winter guard program only to be put on hold after just 2 performances due to the COVID 19 pandemic. However, these incredible performers proved nothing can stop them and persevered. Just 7 years after starting, the program has expanded to Lakeville North HS as well as all area elementary and middle schools growing to over 60 members strong and featuring groups from 1st grade - 12th grade!

Our Color Guard Program
Lakeville South Marching Cougars at Youth in Music State Marching Band Championship, October 2023
Lakeville Color Guard performs and competes as the color guard section within the Lakeville North (performance) and Lakeville South (competitive) marching bands. Lakeville Color Guard members perform with their school bands in community parades, parade competitions, field shows at home football games and field show competitions. Lakeville Guard also travels with their bands on trips nationally and internationally. We offer parade/football game opportunities for our adorable Cadet students and parade/field show/competition/travel opportunities for our amazing Jr.Varsity/Varsity students. Color Guard season runs from spring through fall ending with The Youth in Music State High School Marching Band Competition at US Bank Stadium in October (Lakeville South Marching Band)

Our Winter Guard Program
Winter Guard Tech Week, Nov 2023
Winter Guard is a competitive, indoor performing art using color guard skills combined with dance to recorded music, theatrical costumes, visually impactful vinyl floors and large props to portray a theme or story. During our winter season, all Lakeville Area guard members join to compete together. Lakeville Guard currently features 3 competitive groups: Cadets, Jr. Varsity and Varsity. We compete locally, as members of Minnesota's Northstar Circuit, and nationally, as members of WGI: Winter Guard International. Winter Guard competition season runs from late November through early April.

Our Cadet Guard Program

The Cadet Guard Program is our very special program designed for ELEMENTARY AGED PERFORMERS! Starting as early as 2nd grade, our young and enthusiastic stars have the opportunity to start their color guard journey right here with Lakeville Guard. They focus on beginning flag technique and performance with our Lakeville Guard coaches and veteran Lakeville Guard performers, and have performance opportunities throughout the summer, fall and competitive winter season. Our mission is to develop a lifelong passion for color guard, performance ability and leadership skills as they grow, develop and progress into our Jr. Varsity and Varsity color guard programs! It's never too late to join!
