After great color guard seasons performing with their school bands, winter is the season where our students from across the Lakeville-Farmington area and beyond to come together to perform as one program. Known as "The Sport of the Arts", winter guard teams take center-stage as a competitive, indoor performing art using color guard skills combined with dance to recorded music, theatrical costumes, visually impactful vinyl floors and large props to portray a theme or story. F.L.A.G. Winter Guard features 4 competitive age groups ranging from 1st grade - 12th grade. These groups compete locally, within Minnesota's Northstar Circuit and nationally, as members of WGI: Winter Guard International. The winter guard season runs from November to April.
F.L.A.G.-Cadets are our adorable, youth winter guard team which is one of the YOUNGEST competitive winter guard team in all of Minnesota! Generally novice guard members of elementary school age, they focus on beginner fundamental flag skills, dance movement, rifle skills and show performance throughout their season and compete in the cadet class. The cadet team is a local team and does not travel to national competitions.
These guard members are a fun, energetic group with just about a million questions a day!
The F.L.A.G.-Regional A Team is an intermediate guard comprised of experienced and novice middle school aged performers. They are novice competitors with growing performance abilities who are continuing to develop skills of advancing difficulty on flag and rifle. The F.L.A.G.-Regional A Team competes locally within Northstar Circuit and regionally, at WGI's Minneapolis Regional Competition annually.
The F.L.A.G.-Regional A Team "eats, sleeps and dreams" guard, are super enthusiastic and very motivated to develop those advanced skills!
The F.L.A.G.-A Team is an intermediate-advanced team of veteran competitors comprised of middle and high school age performers. They are experienced competitors of intermediate-advanced skill as well as leaders and mentors for younger members. In addition to intermediate-advanced performance ability on flag, rifle and sabre, these members work hard on developing advanced equipment skills, dance/choreography and performance ability. The F.L.A.G.-A Team competes locally within Northstar Circuit, regionally at WGI's Minneapolis Regional Competition, and nationally, at WGI World Finals in Dayton, OH.
At this stage, The F.L.A.G.-A Team members have developed a lifelong passion for guard and are planning the future of their guard careers beyond high school!
The F.L.A.G.-Open Team are our most advanced performers with years of color guard and winter guard performance experience comprised of high school age students. They are elite level competitors with advanced skills on flag, rifle, sabre, dance/movement and performance ability. The F.L.A.G.-Open Team competes locally within Northstar Circuit, regionally at WGI's Minneapolis Regional Competition, and nationally, at WGI World Finals in Dayton, OH.
These fierce spinners are dedicated, highly committed and driven towards achieving excellence as well as securing the future of their winter guard program by mentoring younger performers and often, returning to coach after graduation.
Fundraising is critical in supporting the growth and development of our winter guard program. Funds raised allows us to reduce participation fees, cover expenses for travel to our national competitions and add new performance opportunities for our continuously expanding enrollment.
